Installation Details: On this install we were contacted by a local fresh International Super Market Baiz Fresh Foods. During the beginning of the pandemic and just prior to all of the riots. Baiz called on Grease Monkey Garage Door to install commercial roll up doors to secure their store fronts. First, our technicians took detailed measurements of the opening, marked where our steel tubes would go and created a game plan for install.
Because of the automatic door and type of jamb we found it better to install steel tubes first to avoid any conflicts with the door overhead threshold door sensor. Also, the steel tubes would allow for a strong fastening between the guides and tubes and head plates and tubes.
We used steel tube on this install to move the Janus 3100HD out from the opening which would help keep people from trying to pry the guides off. Next, our technicians installed the tube steel with heavy anchors and crush plates.
Lastly the door we build on the floor and lifted into place with material lift and mounted. Our team loves the Janus 3100 doors maybe even more than some clients they are very installer friendly.
Our Product Review: From an installation stand point the Janus 3100HD is very installer friendly, our installers can fasten almost all of the hardware from the ground. If you have properly welded or fastened your steel build out plates to the heavy steel tubes then you will just need to lift the door into place with a material lift and attach to plates. If you are attaching directly to wood or masonry you wont need to use build out plates.
The Janus 3100HD Series along with their light and medium duty series come with a self locking tensioner bracket which makes adding tension much easier for one person and safer. The self locking tensioner has a knurled roller inside to hold tension whilst you use a pipe wrench or 1/2 drive to add tension into the door. You will not have to worry about the pipe slipping or locking down set screws between turns into the springs because the grip from the roller to the axel will hold all the tension allowing for quick adjustments.
Our Grease Monkey Garage Door technicians have found that the head plates (the brackets that will hold the weight of the door) for these doors do tend to pitch in so it is always good to have a second pair of eyes and a level handy for straightening these head plates.
As far as steel gauge goes you can compare a rolling sheet door like the Janus 3100HD to a rolling steel door like the Cookson ESD-10 they are not apples to oranges. Sheet doors tend to more economical and do provide a level of security where as rolling steel doors are constructed with much heavier steel slats offering higher security and higher price.
From a strictly aesthetic point of view the Janus 3100HD comes in a wide range of colors (over 25 options) these color choices can also be combined with a reverse coil system where the colored section would be seen from the inside of the door instead of the outside. When matching exteriors this can pair perfectly for when the door is in the open position.
